Proclamation
Proclaiming September 2024 as National Senior Center Month WHEREAS, National Senior Center Month is a time to shine a light on senior centers, showing the entire nation how vital they are to the health and well-being of a community; and WHEREAS, Senior centers provide countless hours of support and encouragement to older adults, and have become integral to health care delivery in our communities offering a place for older adults to discover their unique interests, talents, and aspirations; and WHEREAS, Senior centers work with community partners to provide access to health, economic security, social engagement, purpose, creativity, mobility, nutrition—all in a social and fun environment; and WHEREAS, The Sebastopol Area Senior Center (SASC) is a private, nonprofit organization and is Sonoma County’s oldest Senior Center with an incorporation date of 1969; and WHEREAS, The Sebastopol Area Senior Center welcomes people of every family composition, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, religious background, ethnicity, race and gender and encourage people to participate fully in every aspect of the Senior Center’s life and activities; and WHEREAS, the 2024 theme for National Senior Center Month is Powering Connections and our own Sebastopol Senior Center is a place where connections are made between the Senior Center and the Community..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I Mayor Diana Gardner Rich, on behalf of the City Council of the City of Sebastopol, do hereby proclaim September 2024 in Sebastopol as National Senior Center Month
