I urge council to approve Agenda Item Number 8, to appoint a City Council Liaison investigate opportunities to support in part a West County Homeless and Mental Health Support Team.
The staff report on this item identifies the limits of the current Mobile Support Team used, as this team responds only to folks with mental health issues. Providing response services such as SAFE that are designed to include the unsheltered in west county will yield better outcomes.
The city needs to look at supporting an independent entity with human resources specifically trained in community outreach and response for the unsheltered and folks experiencing mental health issues.
