Hello City Council members,
I joined the Map Your Neighborhood 5 years ago. A small group of us who participated learned about our other neighbors who might need our help, what supplies they had on hand in case of an emergency, how to turn off water and gas lines at each other’s homes in case the owner was gone during the emergency, gave us cards to place in our windows that said we were OK or NEED HELP. It’s so great to get to know everyone! Now I’m involved with learning how to operate and communicate with my small FRS radio during monthly check-ins with the larger group of GMRS radio users. These small ‘walkietalkies' are simple to use and could be very helpful in case the power is out and cell phones can’t be charged. We are learning that the small FRS radios can be used to contact our immediate GMRS radio person on our street, who in turn would communicate with the central Emergency group.
We need to reach more people in our area and practice, practice, practice using our radios so we’ll be prepared in case of emergency. Please keep funding our group. Emergencies can happen out of the blue!
