Hello folks,
I have some questions about agenda item # 10- pilot paid internships for high school students that didn’t get answered the first time this funding item was on the agenda.
1. Provide complete description/URL of this pilot. Is this a city driven program or from AHS/ SRJC? Is it a requirement that interns are paid by the hour?
2. It’s been stated many times staff is busy/ overloaded. Supervising a student takes substantial time. How does overseeing a high student affect staff workload?
3. How does a pilot internship tie into the City’s Priorities?
4. It’s been made clear staff demands the city to invest in their advancement. Have funds for staff training been put back into the budget?
5. Transparency: important to state if any of the interns have a relationship to anyone on staff.
I am enthusiastically for any service learning opportunities that benefit both learners and host agencies. The rationale for minimum wage hourly pay for an internship is unclear to me.
