Dear Mayor Zollman and Sebastopol City Councilmembers,
Thanks for your time and all you do!
I write urging you to vote "NO" on the Approval of Solid Waste Collection Agreement with Sonoma County Resource Recovery
for garbage, recycling, and organic waste collection services. (Council Meeting Agenda Item No. 8-January 7, 2025). And "YES" in support of a renewed contract with Recology Sonoma Marin.
To do otherwise makes a mockery of Sebastopol's longstanding commitment to achieving zero waste and the City's adoption of the Zero Waste Resolution which aligns the City with Zero Waste Sonoma's goal of achieving zero waste by 2030. "NO" to SCRR contract. Why sign up for 15 years with a little known firm which attempted to eliminate the City of Windsor's competitive bidding process and 10-year contract limits in the November, 2024 elections. (PD 11-5-2024). has the second highest garbage-hauling and recycling rates in the County according to Windsor Town Council documents (PD 11-5-2024) disincentivizes participation in recycling and composting programs by significantly raising rates for recycle and compost services. has no recycling facility in Sonoma County. So, it will generate increased greenhouse gas emissions by transporting our city's recycling waste out of the county.
"YES" to renewing a contract with Recology Sonoma Marin.
Sebastopol has a long-standing relationship with Recology.
Recology is employee owned.
Recology is committed to making it possible "for the communities it serves to achieve high landfill diversion and meet sustainability goals." Recology has its own recycling facility in Sonoma County. SCRR does not. This means Sebastopol can be sure to continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by keeping transportation of recycling waste within our county Thanks for your kind attention.
I wishing all of you a Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Angela (Ford)
