Dear Mayor Zollman, Vice Mayor McLewis, and Councilmembers Carter, Hinton, and Maurer,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed change in our city's garbage service from Recology to Sonoma County Resource Recovery (SCRR).
The staff report's rate comparison does not include the costs for compost and recycling services. This omission significantly underestimates SCRR's true costs for most residents and businesses.
Recology has been a partner in our community's waste reduction efforts. SCRR lacks a local recycling facility, which may increase transportation distances and emissions.
I urge the City Council to carefully consider all factors, including the true costs and environmental impacts, before making a decision.
