Dear Mayor Zollman, Vice Mayor McLewis, and Councilmembers Carter, Hinton, and Maurer,
I have heard that our beautiful city of Sebastopol may cancel our contract with Recology. Please do not do that!! I have been very happy with Recology, both at my home and as a former public elementary school teacher. Recology came to my school several times to teach the students about recycling. They also spent MANY hours with me setting up a recycling and composting program at the school. I have nothing but the greatest respect for them.

I have also learned the SRCC, the new waste organization that is being considered, will greatly raise the rates for commercial businesses and many residential customers when the fees for recycling and compost are added in. Why would we make a change that is MORE expensive?
AND, Recology has a recycling plant in the area, SRCC does not. We are required by law to recycle and compost, so all of this "waste" will have to be DRIVEN further away! It doesn't make sense!
Recology workers are unionized. It is very important to me that my city make it a priority to hire unionized companies, like Recology.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! Please keep Recology in Sebastopol!! Thank you,
Heidi Doughty
Resident gardener and former public school teacher
