Subject: Waste contract vote

Good morning Council members.
Due to the city’s recent financial issues, I think it’s safe to say that public trust is not at an all-time high. This decision to vote tonight on a new waste management company does not improve that situation. Right after the holidays without any broad public knowledge of the process? Additionally, the charts sent out with the meeting notes made it so difficult to compare the different types of pricing, that it seems designed to mislead or at least to discourage real comparison.
Please pause this process and wait for the public to weigh in.
Recology has an amazing local recycling and educational facility. They treat their employees well. And going with the other company would disincentivize recycling and composting. We all know that if most people have to pay more they’re going to be throwing that stuff in the trash.
Voting to approve a new contractor this evening is only going to increase the current level of mistrust in the council.
If you’re completely sure that a new contractor is the right choice, please make your case to the residents and get their approval.
