Subject: That the City Council Conduct Interview for one opening on the Public Arts Committee (PAC)
=========================================================================================== RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council conduct the interview for one opening on the Public Arts Committee and consider making an appointment later in the agenda.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Public Arts Committee uses the Art In-Lieu Fund to develop public art projects within City limits and recommend them to Council. There is currently one opening on the committee due to the term of former committee member Marghe Mills-Thysen that ended on June 30th, 2024. The sole applicant Gavin Waters meets the criteria for multiple categories on the Committee. However, Category 2 is the vacant position that would be filled.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
The Public Arts Committee meets the second Tuesday every other month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:50 p. m. at the Sebastopol Youth Annex on 425 Morris Street, Sebastopol, CA. Terms of office are four-year staggered terms, and the opening term will last until December 31st, 2028. The Planning Department noticed the vacancy in the City Hall bulletin board and various other media outlets. The application deadline was November 26th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
Preference will be shown to City residents and persons who own a business or work in the City; however, qualified candidates from the greater Sebastopol and Sonoma County area will be considered. The City Council will consider the following categories:
1. Active members of a city-based, art focused, registered nonprofit organization, entity or facility.
2. Persons with experience in the public art field as either an artist, installer or designer.
3. Members of the general public.
4. A member of the Design Review Board.

The City received one application within the time period for the single opening. This item is for the Council to consider such applications for the one available seat. If the seat is unfilled, City staff will re-advertise the vacancy.

This item has been noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for public viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled meeting date.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no direct fiscal impact associated with the recommended action tonight.
