Dear Sebastopol City Council,
I am asking you to oppose the adoption of a new press policy that will damage reporters’ ability to cover city government and may violate the First Amendment of the Constitution.
Why would Sebastopol, a city of politically curious and politically involved citizens, make it harder for citizens to get information and for reporters to cover city news? This policy does not serve the people of Sebastopol, the press or even the elected representatives. I seems to me that it only serves the interests of the City Manager. The City Manager serves the City Council not the other way around.
Please do not contribute to the erosion of transparency and accessibility in City government.
