Dear Mayor Zollman and Council Members:
I was very distressed to learn of Mayor Zollman's guidelines regarding press access.
I, like him, am an attorney, and it surprises me that he seems not to have considered the First Amendment implications of them, especially, as the expert quoted in the Times piece said, regarding prior restraint.
I was just dumbfounded that department heads and city employees were constrained from speaking freely to the press. This is, quite simply, unabashedly Trumpian, and appalling.
Please reverse those guidelines at your meeting on 3/4.
