I am writing in response to the proposed press policy for the City of Sebastopol. I believe the proposed policy reduces transparency between City Staff, elected officials and the community at large, and that this shift is ill advised during a time when we are being asked to trust our officials and staff as they work to fix the budgeting errors and funding shortfalls that have put the city in a financial bind.
My understanding of the new press policy is that it seems designed to discourage open communication, restricts press access to city officials and delays information sharing.
I urge the City Council to repeal or revise. - significantly - the proposed press policy to ensure timely and open access to public information and ensure transparency of government actions.
