Proclamation
Recognizing Week of the Young Child, April 5-11, 2025
Whereas, This special week is a dedicated time when we celebrate the importance of early childhood and the families, educators, and advocates who support these important years in a child’s life.; and Whereas, The first years of a child’s life are the period of the most rapid brain development and lay the foundation for all future learning; and
Whereas, Children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional, and language and literacy development are built on a foundation of children’s positive interactions with adults, peers, and their environment; and Whereas, high-quality early care and education can help ameliorate the effects of poverty, detect and remediate delays, identify and help prevent child neglect, and lead to positive outcomes for individual children, helping them be better prepared for school and more likely to succeed in life; and Whereas, young children need access to an early childhood education workforce that reflects a rich diversity of linguistic, racial, and cultural identities; and

Whereas, child care providers, especially women of color, who are skilled and valuable front-line professionals that risked their health to provide early care and education during a global pandemic deserve to be fairly compensated; and
Whereas, early childhood education providers and other community members who make a difference in the lives of young children in Sebastopol deserve thanks and recognition.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Mayor Stephen Zollman, do hereby recognize and proclaim the Week of the Young Child, April 5-11, 2025
