Proclamation
Recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week April 14-20, 2025
Whereas emergencies occur any time of day or night that require police, fire, or emergency medical services; and,
Whereas when an emergency occurs the prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and, Whereas the safety of our police officers and firefighters is dependent upon dispatchers maintaining a calm demeanor while communicating with citizens who are experiencing traumatic situations, and dispatchers must rapidly and accurately gather and relay information to first responders and citizens to maintain public safety and possibly save lives; and,
Whereas the 9-1-1 telecommunicators are the true backbone of the 9-1-1 system and the link between people calling for help in an emergency situation and the first responders that arrive on scene; and Whereas Public Safety Telecommunicators are the single crucial link for our public safety personnel by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them information, and ensuring their safety; and, Whereas Public Safety Telecommunicators of the Sebastopol Police Department have contributed substantially to providing excellent service to our community regarding law, fire and EMS dispatching needs; and,
Whereas every dispatcher has exhibited compassion, understanding, professionalism and extraordinary dedication to our city by going above and beyond during this past year to overcome critical staffing shortages by voluntarily working extra shifts to continue providing the highest level of these vital services to our community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Stephen Zollman, on behalf of the entire City Council hereby proclaim the week of April 14 through 20, 2025, to be National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in the City of Sebastopol, in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our city and citizens safe.
