That the City Council receive a brief informational presentation on the Sister City Visit to Takeo City Honoring our 40 Year Anniversary with Takeo City
======================================================================================== SUMMARY:
The Sebastopol World Friends will be providing a short presentation on highlights from the Sister City Visit to Takep City.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
1985 Sebastopol, California, and Yamauchi, Japan, signed a sister city charter as members of the Sister Cities International. Shortly after that time, Sebastopol World Friends began organizing regular cultural exchanges between the two cities in collaboration with Yamauchi World Friends and in 2008, Yamauchi Town, Kitagata Town, and Takeo City merged to form new Takeo City and a new sister city agreement was signed in Sebastopol by the mayors of both cities.
This year, Sebastopol World Friends celebrated the 40th anniversary of this sister city relationship with Takeo.
The Vice Mayor attended the exchange in Takeo City. The Mayor and City Councilmember from Takeo City also came to Sebastopol and celebrated the 40th anniversary.
Sebastopol World Friends will be providing highlights of these events.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
As of the writing of this staff report, the City has not received any public comment. However, if staff receives public comment from interested parties following the publication and distribution of this staff report such comments will be provided to the City Council as supplemental materials before or at the meeting.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
This item has been noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for public viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled meeting date. The City has also used social media to promote and advertise the City Council Meeting Agenda Items.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with receipt of the presentation.
RESTATED RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council receive the presentation.
