Hi everyone,
I am emailing to express my support for Porchfest to take place again this year. I live at St, and was delighted to experience the camaraderie, and the amazing bands at Porchfest last year (one of the band venues was right across the street from me). It was so much fun to listen to some of the bands playing there, one of which recently played at the Barlow. I visited all the venues on High Street and Calder and I was really impressed at the talent exhibited by many of the bands, but also at how well behaved the community was. It was so great to meet neighbors near and far that I have never met before and catch up with neighbors I haven’t seen in awhile. My only concern was that Calder was not closed to traffic in the block that had a band venue. I can understand why, but it was a little dicey with people standing in the street. I would think that diverting traffic onto Vine St would help with that situation. I talked to a few neighbors a few days later, and they had broached the subject of having food trucks for Porchfest. I am not sure I would like that. There was very little litter after last year’s Porchfest, and I think that adding food trucks would create a layer of complexity and hard feelings about the event. I know there are folks on my block who are opposed to to having Porchfest in our neighborhood, and littering might be one of their concerns.
I sincerely hope you will show your support for Porchfest this year. it is such a wonderful way to celebrate community and provide an outlet for local talent to show off their stuff.
