Dear Council Members and City Staff,
Porchfest last year was a very positive event I would support it this year with the following conditions:
1) Adequate policing – you cannot have people drinking and then walking around without adequate police presence in terms of being available during an emergency, unexpected disruption or other public nuisance. People might get drunk at the designated area and wander off intoxicated into the neighborhoods;
2) Porchfest Ambassadors on each block that would monitor the crowds, stay sober and help enforce rules regarding individual households. Some neighbors might not want strangers wandering on their lawns, driveways or gardens. Porchfest Ambassadors would help ensure that visitors treat neighbor homes with respect and kindness. 3) For houses that host music, the immediate neighbors need to be in agreement as it directly impacts adjacent neighbors.
If Porchfest can provide policing, block ambassadors and neighbor approval, I support it.
Best,
Kate Haug
