Proclamation
International Day of Peace: September 21, 2025
WHEREAS, The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21st. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 Global Peace Day Theme: is Act Now for a Peaceful World; which focuses on concrete actions and collective responsibility to combat violence, discrimination, and inequality, and to foster mutual respect, empathy, and positive communication; and WHEREAS, In a time of turbulence, tumult, and uncertainty, it is critical for everyone to take concrete action to mobilize for peace. From peacekeepers on the front lines of conflict, to community members, to students in classrooms around the world, everyone has a role to play. We must speak up against violence, hate, discrimination, and inequality; practice respect; and embrace the diversity of our world; and WHEREAS, The International Day of Peace calls on us to strengthen the ideals of peace within and among nations and peoples. In a world marked by conflict, inequality, and discrimination, it is a reminder of our urgent responsibility to foster solidarity, advance disarmament, nurture empathy, and build sustainable peace for all.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, MAYOR STEPHEN ZOLLMAN, do hereby Proclaim September 21, 2025 as the International Day of Peace in the City of Sebastopol.
