Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council members,
My name is Lovesong Cahill. I am speaking out as a concerned citizen and friend of a tenant at Woodmark Apartments, and in support of other tenants at Woodmark Apartments.
I am asking you to approve an Urgency Just Cause Eviction Ordinance that takes effect on the first day of tenancy for current and future tenants. Accompanied by three months of market-rate relocation assistance that doesn't require signing away of legal rights. An Urgency Ordinance is the only protection that would ensure that all the remaining families at Woodmark are covered by the 14th of December, as well as tenants in other deed-restricted housing.
It has become increasingly more challenging to find true affordable housing, especially with the wages offered at many jobs that leave many hardworking people to live below the poverty line. It is so important to have stable housing available. No regular person could be expected to find a new residence and move to a new location with minimal notice. It is important to have protections in place for vulnerable populations to have stable, affordable housing for all.
That is why I am standing with others to ask that Sebastopol take immediate action to support an Urgency Just Cause Ordinance to cover deed-restricted housing like Woodmark . These protections are just one step you have the power and opportunity to take to protect your constituents. Thank you for time.
Lovesong Cahill
