Thank you for making time on your agenda for this important decision before you to protect your constituents.
I am asking you to approve an Urgency Just Cause Ordinance for Melissa Page and the remaining families at Woodmark Apartments.
I want you to take a minute to meet Melissa.
My friend Melissa Page and her son Turner have made a home at Woodmark. Melissa is a Caregiver for the elderly and infirm. Her hours vary and her pay often regulated by others needs and of her son. Low Cost housing has been a Gift; this eviction a Nightmare. As you well know it comes at a time of Snap Benefits being severely cut and cost of housing and living on the rise.
Melissa is exactly the kind of tenant any landlord would covet. She plans her expenses to make sure the rent is on time often having to deprive herself of things we may take for granted. No Starbucks for her or a girl’s night out.
In spite of her situation we know first hand that Melissa will leave her Woodmark Apartment sparkling clean, probably in better shape than when she moved in.
Melissa is the Caregiver that you would love to have for your loved ones in need. I know I do! This family is put in a dire situation not of their own making.
I suspect she may be typical of the other families in Melissa’s situation at Woodmark.
Your approval is so important, vital to assist the vulnerable among us.
You have the power. Please pass the ordinance.
