Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council members,
My name is Gail Turcotte. I am speaking out as a concerned citizen and friend of a tenant at Woodmark Apartments.
I am asking you to approve an Urgency Just Cause Eviction Ordinance that takes effect on the first day of tenancy for current and future tenants. Accompanied by three months of market-rate relocation assistance that doesn't require signing away of legal rights. An Urgency Ordinance is the only protection that would ensure that all the remaining families at Woodmark are covered by the 14th of December, as well as tenants in other deed-restricted housing.
In this current political climate, affordability, housing, energy cost etc. have become an increasing concern for most citizens across the country, this region is inherently more expensive to live which only adds to the issue at hand. People have built relationships, created careers, and established their lives in this community and want to continue to contribute to it.
That is why I am standing with others to ask that Sebastopol take immediate action to support an Urgency Just Cause Ordinance to cover deed-restricted housing like Woodmark . These protections are just one step you have the power and opportunity to take to protect your constituents. Thank you for hearing us.
