Subject: Cal Trans Grant Decision
Hello Council Members,
I am writing to thank you for your support of the Cal Trans Grant recommendation that you recently approved. I attended most of the meetings and am supportive of the final recommendation and design. I realize that no new plan can ever receive support from every member of the community, but I truly believe that the final plan that you approved meets most of the goals that the community laid out early in the process. I am especially pleased that the final recommendation will:
• Improve the pedestrian experience of Main Street by widening the sidewalks and providing more space for sidewalk cafes and sales.
• Make downtown more vibrant and businesses more successful be putting the emphasis on people instead of cars.
• Encourage investment downtown.
• Slow down vehicles with two-way streets and ending the South Main drag race making downtown safer for motorists and pedestrians.
• Improve traƯic flow and reduce miles driven by providing more vehicular options. • Preserves parking on Main Street.
• Breaks the stranglehold that the highways have had on our downtown and prioritizes pedestrians and local businesses over thru traƯic.
Although there is still a lot of work to be done, I look forward to seeing this plan become reality in the coming years.
Thank you again for making a such a valuable contribution to the future of our wonderful town. It takes people with vision to make positive change, and you provided that vision.
