Subject: Building the Commons: Community Engagement Meeting of Thursday, August 13, 2026
Feedback from the Commons meeting…
Large room—needed to set up more chairs…
With the proposed move of the library, the city works, and the senior center to O’Reilly buildings, what happens to the buildings they vacate? The guy from the senior center said developers may buy the buildings and pay a good amount of money for them. How would this money offset the purchase of the O’Reilly buildings? This was not discussed in the meeting.
Based on the presentations, it seems that the O’Reilly buildings are a ‘done deal.’ I don’t like that the services are not down town, but I understand the reality of how perfect the O’Reilly buildings are (except that they’re way out of town).
I don’t understand why they were saying the high school was close; would teenagers really be utilizing all the services? Maybe the library? They could walk up the Joe Rodota trail, and thus be away from traffic. Not really a good selling point.
Thanks for the meeting!
