Subject: Sebastopol Commons Vote
Dear Sebastopol City Council,
I have lived in Sebastopol most of my 39 years and grew up walking to our downtown library. I’m writing to ask you to please vote no to spend money to explore the Sebastopol commons project and just spend money to fix our library! If the senior center is so desperate to move let them head this project and move to O’Reilly and pay for it with county money. Our city is too in debt and mismanaged to take on a project of this magnitude successfully. Just look at the sewer and water situation! We have no business taking on a project like this when we haven’t even upgraded the water nor paid back the money borrowed from that account.
In addition to thinking this is a terrible idea for the city’s finances I also don’t want to take away the heart of downtown that the library is. Parents drop their children off and run errands downtown. 4 different school currently have much safer/closer walkability to the existing library than they would if it was to move. And if it was to move and the current building and parking lot was sold and developed? Would it even be able to be sold in the economy? Currently many buildings downtown have been for sale with no takers!
I urge you to vote no on this and not to waste our city’s money exploring a concept that is just a dream.
Please just fix our current library as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Sarah Taube
