Dear City Council and Staff,
Given the resources we provide to the County, I suggest that the City swap positions with the County when it comes to property tax. The County currently receives 32.5% of the $18,000,000 in property tax generated by Sebastopol. The City currently receives 19.43.
I suggest that given the amount of supportive housing, no and low property tax housing, social services and recreational services that Sebastopol provides, the City should receive 32% and the County should receive 20% of the property tax generated by Sebastopol. This would give Sebastopol the extra funding it needs to support no and low income housing, the Senior Center, Community Cultural Center, Ives Pool and its infrastructure.
While Sebastopol does receive some benefit from the County, the City is responsible for its own administration, roads, police and fire.
In addition, property tax bills contribute 2.21% toward the County library system.
See breakdown below on a house valued at $764,069.
Thank you,
Kate Haug
