I am writing to you as a resident and homeowner at ,
Sebastopol, for over a decade.
I oppose changing the existing zoning at 495 S Main to
accommodate commercial outdoor barbecue at this location, and request that enforcement of the existing zoning requirements resume.
As the former director of the American Lung Association of San Francisco, I can tell you that the health hazards caused by exposure to woodsmoke are well documented. It affects me personally as I have asthma, but I am also concerned about exposing vulnerable neighbors and nearby facilities. This neighborhood is a health corridor. Medical offices, residential and post-acute care facilities are here to help folks, not expose them to the health hazards of smoke.
As a homeowner I can tell you that persistent commercial smoke affects the marketability and value of my property, which has been confirmed by my realtor.
The smokers have been operating for more than a year. It is time for Sebastopol to enforce existing zoning.
