RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends City Council adopt the attached Resolution establishing the regular time of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meetings as the second Thursday of each month at 4:30 pm at the City Council Chambers.
BACKGROUND:
Municipal Code Chapter 2.18 (Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission), Section

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission has been meeting at the Larry J. Farr Community Center since Resolution CC 2022-31 was adopted on March 1, 2022. Since then, there have been scheduling conflicts with the Community Center facility rental and the availability of staff to prepare the location with tables, seating, and possible AV equipment.

ADVISORY COMMISSION TO ADOPT A PARK AND
RECREATION FACILITY NAMING POLICY
FILE NO.: New Item
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council consider approving a resolution, adopting the Park and Recreation Facility Naming Policy.
BACKGROUND
The City of Shasta Lake currently lacks a formal policy for naming its parks, recreational areas, and facilities. With several parks projects in progress, including the new skatepark at the Civic Center Campus, and the disc golf course next to Bizz Johnson Ballpark, a formal policy will help guide staff and the community as we consider names for these future facilities. A naming policy is essential to ensure the names of these public spaces reflect the community’s values, heritage, and significance. The proposed policy aims to establish clear guidelines and procedures for naming and renaming parks and recreational facilities, encouraging community involvement, and preserving the City’s historical and cultural identity.
The proposed policy was brought to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission at their August 8, 2024 meeting and discussed amongst the Commissioners and the public.
The Commission recommended that the policy be brought to City Council for final consideration and adoption.
