AGENDA ITEM
City Council
TO: Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Jason Peterson, Finance Manager
DATE: December 17, 2024
SUBJECT: SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET APPROPRIATION – FY 2024-2025

POLICE VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
FILE NO.:

RECOMMENDATION
Staff request a supplemental budget appropriation to move approved budgeted funds from FY 25/26 to the current FY 24/25 in the full amount of $160,000 for Police Vehicle Replacement. The $160,000 would be used to purchase and outfit (2) 2025 Ford F-150’s that recently became available.

BACKGROUND
The City of Shasta Lake maintains a fleet of 11 dedicated police vehicles. The average annual mileage per vehicle is approx. 25,000/yr. The amount of mileage on these vehicles ranges from approx. 25,000 to 190,000, with the average being 87,500.

Since 2020, the production of police vehicles in the country has been inconsistent, limited, and difficult for agencies, particularly smaller agencies like ourselves, to obtain when vehicle production starts. The City has been able to secure the following since 2020:
• 08/2020 – (4) 2020 Ford Explorers
• 01/2022 – (1) 2021 Ford Explorer
• 03/2023 – (2) 2023 Ford F-150’s
• 10/2024 – (3) 2025 Ford Explorers (Plan to be in service by February 2025) Given the unknown production and availability of police (Ford F-150) vehicles next FY 25/26, with the increasing mileage of our existing fleet and potential unforeseen 31 maintenance and repairs, staff request the supplemental budget appropriation of $160,000 to purchase and outfit (2) 2025 Ford F-150’s that recently became available.

FISCAL IMPACTS
As part of the currently enacted two-year budget spanning FY 24/25 & 25/26, the Police Vehicle Replacement budget (Account #610-340-5824) is as follows:

FY 24/25 - $240,000; If approved, would increase to $400,000 FY 25/26 - $160,000; If approved, would decrease to $0
