PREVENTION OFFICER REPORT
Weed Abatement:
During the first quarter, primary efforts were focused on finalizing and adopting the City’s updated weed abatement ordinance. The ordinance successfully cleared legal review in January and was formally adopted in February. It is scheduled to take effect on April 10. During this transition period, notices were issued on a complaint-driven basis as needed. Youth Program:
On March 3rd-4th, I completed the Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist training and am now a certified Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist. This certification enhances our ability to provide early intervention, education, and prevention services within the community. Fires:
In January, crews responded to one outbuilding fire determined to be caused by welding activity. Additionally, multiple fires occurred in the restroom facilities at Claire Engle Park, which were determined to be acts of arson.
In February, there were two residential structure fire calls that were ultimately determined to be false alarms.
In March, one illegal controlled burn was identified and referred to Air Quality due to multiple violations. There were also two additional false alarm fire responses during the month.
Respectfully Submitted,
Devin M Owens
