RESOLUTION NO. 2026-08-6962
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SIGNAL HILL, CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE OFFICES OF TWO (2) CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, CITY CLERK, AND CITY TREASURER THAT WERE TO BE ELECTED ON NOVEMBER 3, 2026; AND CANCELING THE ELECTION FOR SAID OFFICES WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Signal Hill, California has called a General Municipal Election to be held in the City on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the purpose of electing at-large two (2) City Council Members, City Clerk, and City Treasurer to terms of four years, and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California, as of the close of the nomination period on August 7, 2026, there are not more candidates than offices to be elected for City Council Member, City Clerk, and City Treasurer and that Section 10229 of the Elections Code allows one of the following courses of action to be taken by the City Council:
1. Appoint to the office that person who has been nominated.
2. Appoint to the office any eligible voter if no one has been nominated.
3. Hold the election if either no one or only one person has been nominated; and, WHEREAS, a notice was published on August 14, 2026, in a newspaper of general circulation pursuant to law, which is at least five days prior to this action being taken by the City Council.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SIGNAL HILL, CALIFORNIA HEREBY RESOLVES, DETERMINES, AND ORDERS AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the following action is being taken:
The following person(s) are appointed to the office of City Council Member, City Clerk, and City Treasurer to which they were nominated:
(a) Tina L. Hansen is appointed to the office of City Council Member of the City of Signal Hill for a term of four years. (b) Keir Jones is appointed to the office of City Council Member of the City of Signal Hill for a term of four years. (c) Daritza Perez is appointed to the office of City Clerk of the City of Signal Hill for a term of four years. (d) David A. Hopper is appointed to the office of City Treasurer of the City of Signal Hill for a term of four years.
SECTION 2.
The General Municipal Election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for two (2) City Council Members, City Clerk, and City Treasurer is now canceled.
OR
The General Municipal Election for two (2) City Council Members, City Clerk, and City Treasurer shall be cancelled in its entirety, since all City Council offices have been filled by this Resolution pursuant to Section 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California.
SECTION 3.
The person(s) appointed shall qualify and take office and serve exactly as if elected at the General Municipal Election for the office.
SECTION 4.
The City Clerk shall not accept for filing any statement of write-in candidacy for two (2) City Council Members, City Clerk, and City Treasurer which is submitted after the appointment(s) are made.
