MEMBERS TO THE FOUR NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, 20 applicants nominated to serve on the Executive Boards of the four Neighborhood Councils for a term commencing on July 1, 2022, and expiring on June 30, 2024.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The City’s Neighborhood Councils were established in 1970 to promote citizen awareness and participation in local government. The Simi Valley Municipal Code calls for the City Council to appoint a minimum of seven and a maximum of 13 members to each Neighborhood Council Executive Board. The Municipal Code further states that Executive Board members serve 24-month staggered terms, with regular appointments occurring every eight months. The next term is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2022.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
Recruitment to fill 20 vacant seats began on February 17, 2022. There are five vacancies on each of the four Neighborhood Councils. The recruitment concluded on March 11, 2022.

On A
pril 11, 2022, the City Council appointed Mayor Pro Tem Litster and Council Member Luevanos to serve on an Interview Subcommittee for Neighborhood Councils 1 & 3, and Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Member Judge to serve on an Interview Subcommittee for Neighborhood Councils 2 & 4.

On May 11 and May 18, 2022, Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Mem ber Judge interviewed applicants for Neighborhood Counc il 2 & 4 and nominated five for appointment to each. On May 23 and May 25, 2022, Mayor Pro Tem Litster and Council Member Luevanos interviewed applicants for Neighborhood Counc ils 1 & 3 and nominated 5 f or appointment to each.

SUGGESTED CITY COUNCIL MOTION
I move to approve, and for the Mayor to appoint, 20 applicants nominated to serve on the Executive Boards of the four Neighborhood Councils for a term commencing on July 1, 2022, and expiring on June 30, 2024.

SUMMARY
On May 11 and May 18, 2022, Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Member Judge interviewed applicants for Neighborhood Council 2 & 4 and nominated five for appointment to each. On May 23 and May 25, 2022, Mayor Pro Tem Litster and Council Member Luevanos interviewed applic ants for Neighborhood Councils 1 & 3 and nominated 5 for appointment to each. It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint the 20 applicants nominated to serve on the Executive Boards of the four Neighborhood Councils for a term commenc ing on July 1, 2022, and expiring on June 30, 2024.

My husband and I bought our first house here and we had our two sons when Simi Valley Hospital was literally a one floor 4 room toqu en hospital. I have seen my hometown grow and go through many changes and I feel as much part of it as I am.

Able to listen to the comp laints or concerns and find a solution. Always be available no matter what. My sons are adults now and I can devote all my time to the council.

I believe as a 20 year old collage student that longs to have a say within the city's planning division I qualify as a great candidate not only through my current examples of interest In city development and Journalism but as a resident who plans to remain a local throughout my professional career. As a young adult I would like to steer our city towar ds responsible growt h where we can see a surge in both favored retail/commercial tenants and home developments but also retain the values we embedded as a bedroom community .

I would like to oversee city developme nts and upcoming projects and weigh-In on what could be done to perfect them tor our neighborhood to ensure they are appropriate for our cityscape. I would utilize this information and my current city page to inform residents about projects, get feedback via private messages or public comments on posts, and be the voice for those who wish to be heard. I believe Simi Valley has the potential to grow an onllne presence as large as "WhatsUpSCV," an onllne developments/entertainment page within Santa Clarita. I see my current responsibilities as an individual running a city developments page overlap in some degree with the responsibilities of being appointed a position within Neighborhood Council overseeing and participating in City planning events.

Our lives were cE-ntered arou nd activities that involv ed our children, and we found Simi Valley to be a family -friendly, safe place to live.
