SUBJECT: SELECTION OF TWO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO CONDUCT SIMI

VALLEY CULTURAL ARTS CENTER FOUNDATION BOARD

INTERVIEWS

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council select two City Council Members to interview and nominate four prospective Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board members.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW

The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation (Foundation) is a separate 501(c)(3) non -profit organization that provides endowment and annual financial support for the Simi Valley C ultural Arts Center. The Foundation Board is comprised of up to 21 voting members , including seven City Council -appointed public members. Currently, four City Council-appointed vacancies exist with terms beginning on October 25, 2022, and concluding on June 30, 2026.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES

The City initiated a recruitment on July 1, 2022, to solicit applicati ons for the current vacancies. The initial deadline for applications was July 29, 2022. However, in order to solicit additional applications, the recruitment was extended to August 26, 2022.

Recruitment efforts included a press release, cable television public service announcements, outreach by the Foundation Board members, social media shares, and posting on the City’s website. As of the August 26, 2022, deadline, a total of five (5) applications were received. Therefore, it is anticipated that approximately one hour will be needed to conduct the ten-minute applicant interviews. Staff is recommending that the City Council select two City Council Members to interview and nominate four applicants to fill the upcoming vacancies on the Foundation Board with a term commencing October 25, 2022, and concluding on June 30, 2026.

Mayor Mashburn and Council Member Judge served on the nominating committee for the Foundation Board in August of 2020.
