SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF SIMI VALLEY CULTURAL ARTS CENTER
FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, the applicants nominated to the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation (Foundation) is a separate 501(c)(3) non -profit organization that provides endowment and annual financial support for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. The Foundation Board is comprised of up to 21 voting members , including seven City Council -appointed public members. All members serve staggered four-year terms of office.
On September 12, 202 2, the City Council appointed Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Member Luevanos to serve on an interview subcommittee to nominate applicants for appointment to the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board. The interviews took place on October 6, 2022.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
There are currently four City-Council appointed vacancies on the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board. The City initiated a recruitment on July 1, 2022 , to solicit applications for the current vacancies . The initial deadline for applications was July 29, 2022. However, in order to solicit additional applications, the recruitment was extended to August 26, 2022. A total of five applications were received. On October 6, 2022, the interview subcommittee interviewed four applicants (one withdrew prior to the interview), recommending all four for appointment to the Foundation Board.
The terms for these appointments to the Foundation Board will commence on October 25, 2022 and conclude on June 30, 2026.

SUMMARY
T
here are currently four City Council-appointed vacancies on the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board. On October 6, 2022, the interview subcommittee comprised of Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Member Luevanos interviewed the applicants and recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, the four applicants nominated to the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board. These appointments will commence on October 25, 2022 and conclude on June 30, 2026. ___
