We are currently very active in looking for a Sprinter Van. The purchase has been difficult to find because they are very popular and to find one in our price range has been difficult, but we are confident we will be able to find one in the third quarter. For as many times and as many places we've been, as well as special events, we've helped about 150-200 individuals. At our facility an estimated 35-40 individuals. We plan to double those numbers this year.

Brief Explanation of Project Status (including # served to date) The grant of $11,200 from the City of Simi Valley was awarded to serve 14 seniors in Simi Valley. Each senior enrolled in our programs costs approximately $800 each year. In the first quarter, the City funded the participation of 32 seniors which was an increase of four from the prior year. The first quarter expenditures totalled $6,400. In the second quarter, the City funded 24 seniors, allowing for an increase of three seniors, for a total of $4,800. Due to the City's funding, CAREGIVERS has been able to expand the enrollment by seven from the prior year, to bring the total number of seniors being served in Simi Valley to 36 seniors this fiscal year. Our goal in providing volunteer caregiving services is to help people age in place for the rest of their lives. At the close of December 31, 2022, CAREGIVERS had served and continues to serve 36 Simi Valley residents at an estimated cost of $28,800 per year. Of the 36 enrolled seniors, our staff has matched volunteers with eight of the seniors equating to approx. 624 hours of volunteer support annually. These volunteers are dedicated to the needs of those eight seniors and includes services such as help with grocery shopping, rides to medical appointments, companionship, and general assistance. An additional one of our Simi seniors has regular weekly support from a Building Bridges team of three volunteers who help with household chores. Of the 36 currently enrolled, we have eight seniors on a waiting list for a one-on-one match. The remaining 19 seniors have only expressed a need for periodic assitance. Every senior receives regular phone support with two additional "floating" volunteers who help with general requests for shopping and transportation. To meet their needs, we are actively recruiting volunteers in Simi Valley anticipating continued growth in our enrollment numbers. While the City grant funding was exhausted in the first two quarters, CAREGIVERS continues to provide services to 36 seniors and we will continue to enroll Simi Valley seniors.

In preparation for the stresses of the holiday season, events centered on wellness and socialization. For example, to celebrate Thanksgiving, staff hosted the Gratitude Healthy Living seminar that culminated in a shared Thanksgiving meal. Key topics included the healing nature of expressing gratitude in recovery and healthy coping skills. Other holiday gatherings included Halloween pumpkin carving and family holiday crafts and festivities that encouraged creative expression and socialization. Another highlighted event was the " Giving Back Community Service Project" where residents were provided cleaning supplies and worked together to brighten shared spaces within their community. The event taught cleaning skills, appreciation for maintenance staff, and the importance of connecting with neighbors.
The Supportive Services Program at each of our 3 Simi Valley locations: La Rahada, Casa de Paz, and Peppertree continues to flourish. To date, this program has served 102 Simi Valley residents ( including adults and youth). This quarter, Case Managers and Supportive Services staff hosted a total of 21 life skills and community engagement events (double the amount from last quarter) attended by over 115 residents throughout the communities. Staff also increased the amount of Coffee Socials from the last term to strengthen community-building and reduce isolation.
Advancement toward the Supportive Programs goals continues to improve. This term, 100% of all residents in the 3 Simi Valley housing sites have retained permanent housing, achieved greater self-determination (measured by paying rent by the deadline) and demonstrated an increase in life skills and income.
