COMMITTEE
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, the seven nominees to the Community Projects Grant Review Committee with terms commencing upon appointment and concluding when the City Council awards the FY 2023- 24 Community Projects Grant funding.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The City Council created the Community Projects Grant (CPG) Review Committee (Review Committee) in February 2017. The Review Committee is comprised of seven representatives including one from each of the four Neighborhood Councils, the Youth Council, the Council On Aging, and the Community at-Large. The Review Committee makes recommendations to the City Council on Waste Management’s annual allocation of $150,000 to the City’s Community Projects Grant Program, which provides funding to local non-profit organizations serving Simi Valley. The application window to submit project grant applications closed on February 16, 2023, which allowed for all potential Review Committee members to self -identify possible conflicts of interest prior to appointment to ensure that the Committee performs its duties objectively.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES

The recruitment for the Community at-Large representative commenced on February 17, 2023, and concluded on March 3, 2023. There were a t otal of 11 applications received with one applicant being identified as having conflicts of interest due to prior or current affiliation with organizations that applied for funding. Ten applicants were invited to interview for the position with six participating. Council Member Cavanaugh and Council Member Rhodes conducted i nterviews on March 21, 2023 , and nominated one Community at-Large representative, Elsa Dreckmann.
