TO: City Council
FROM: Department of Public Works
SUBJECT: SELECTION OF TWO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO CONDUCT

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) PARATRANSIT ADVISORY

COMMITTEE INTERVIEWS

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council select two City Council Members to interview and nominate prospective ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee members.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The terms of one committee member and one alternate on the City’s ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee will expire on April 30, 2023. Staff is requesting that the City Council select two City Council members to interview and nominate prospective ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee members.

The ADA Paratransit Plan, approved by the City Council on February 24, 1992, provided for the establishment of an ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee. The establishment of this Committee meets the Federal Transit Administration requirements for ongoing public input to agencies providing public transportation to individuals with disabilities.

The Committee meets quarterly and is comprised of five members and two alternates.

As part of the plan, two Council Members participate in the selection process for ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee members. Council Member Luevanos and Mayor Mashburn last served in this capacity on May 3, 2022.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
A recruitment to solicit applications was initiated on March 15, 2023, and concluded on April 5, 2023. Recruitment efforts included a media release and postings on the City’s website. Applications were also available on the City’s ADA/Dial-A-Ride vans and at the Simi Valley Senior Center, Simi Valley Public Library, and City Hall . It is estimated that approximately two hours will be needed to conduct the interviews. Staff is requesting that the City Council appoint two City Council Members to interview and nominate prospective ADA Paratransit Committee members for appointment.
