The term of one of the City’s two representatives to the VCAAA Advisory Council will expire on June 30, 2023.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES

In compliance with the VCAAA Advi sory Council Guidelines for the Election of Representatives from Councils On Aging, the COA began soliciting applications for the upcoming vacancy on April 10, 2023, and closed the recruitment on May 5, 2023. During this period, four interest forms were received.

On May 8, 2023, the COA Executive Board voted to recommend the appointment of Al Brown (Attachment A, page 3), subject to the City Council’s ratification. If ratified, this will be Mr. Brown’s first term. * What contributions do you think you can make to the VCAAA Advisory Council? I am focused on the Seniors of Simi valley to assure that they are represented and served to maximum extent possible. I have experience as the Vice President of an International Education Company, and as President of an International Computer Company. These have taught me numerous skills in leadership and guidance of individuals and groups. As the husband and care-giver of a dementia ridden wife, I am somewhat experienced in providing nutrition and health. We have both made it into our Bo's and experienced the trials and tribulations as well as successes of growing older. All this can be transferred to the work of the VCAAA Advisory Council.
* What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a representative to the VCAAA Advisory Council?
To provide input to the Council on affairs relating to aging and those who are aged. To assist in programs of various sorts to provide services, information, and assistance to people over the age of 60. To assist in using County resources, and those of both state and federal organizations, to assist the elderly in our community.
* Please list any community activities you are involved in.

Volunteer for years at the Simi Valley Senior Center. President's Distinguished Toastmaster earning Governor and Director of the year awards, and being the number one District in the USA. Currently Vice Chair of the Executive Board of Neighborhood Council #2 in Simi Valley, and member of the Executive Board of the Council on Aging. Completed the Simi Valley Citizens Police Academy, and member of CERT.

Are you committed to attending the monthly VCAAA Advisory Council meetings and occasional committee meetings in Ventura and then attending the Simi Valley COA monthly meetings to report back to the members? ?
Recently purchased a EV (Electric Vehicle) which makes travel less expensive and more pleasant, thus allowing me to attend meetings is Ventura. I already attend COA meetings. This would not be a problem. 34a/04-23
4 * Why do you think the VCAAA Advisory Council is important? Seniors represent almost 15% of the population of Simi Valley and similarly of Ventura County. That number will continue to grow. Those in need of assistance and services in the senior community need to have access to the appropriate programs and services to solve the problems facing seniors. Transportation, Housing, and financial assistance are areas that seniors require in a larger scale than the overall community. Thus, VCAAAdvisory Council is absolutely necessary.

Please add any other information you would like considered.

Seniors are the fastest growing segment of the community I am one of them. I personally deal with people who need and use services provided by the city and county. It would be my pleasure to provide as much assistance as possible to these people. This position would be a way to do that.

I certify that I am at least 60 years of age and that I reside in Simi Valley.

I understand that if selected and appointed as a representative to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, I will serve as a volunteer and at the pleasure of the Simi Valley City Council. As a volunteer, I understand that I am not covered by the City's insurance policy and further that the City's liability does not encompass volunteers.

By entering my name below, I affirm that the provided information above is accurate and that I meet the above requirements.
