SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
PARATRANSIT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, the applicants nominated to serve on the ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee for a term commencing immediately, and expiring on April 30, 2025.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The ADA Paratransit Plan, approved by the City Council on February 24, 1992, provided for the establishment of an ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee to review public transportation issues affecting individuals with disabilities.
The Committee consists of five member s and two alternate s. As of April 30, 2023, two member positions (one regular; one alternate) became vacant.
A recruitment to fill the vacant positions w as initiated on March 15, 2023, and closed on April 5, 2023.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
A total of three applications were received for the vacanc ies. On May 9, 2023, Mayor Thomas and Council Member Cavanaugh interviewed the three eligible applicants and nominated the following individuals for appointment. The t erm will commence immediately and expire on April 30, 2025. The application of each nominee is included (Attachment A, page 3).

The following alternatives are available to the City Council:

2. P rovide staff with alternative direction.
Staff recommends Alternative No. 1.

I move to approve, and the Mayor appoint , the two applicants nominated to the ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee.
SUMMARY
As of April 30, 2023, the ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee had two (2) vacancies. On May 9, 2023, Mayor Thomas and Council Member Cavanaugh interviewed a total of three (3) candidates, and have nominated one (1) member and one (1) alternate for appointment to the ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee. It is recommended that the City Council approve, and the Mayor appoint, the applicants nominated to the ADA Paratransit Advisory Committee.
