SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE SIMI VALLEY COUNCIL ON AGING 50 YEAR
ANNIVERSARY LOGO FOR USE ON PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
The Simi Valley Council On Aging (COA) recommends the City Council approve the use of the attached (Attachment A) logo commemorating the COA’s 50 Year Anniversary for use on promotional materials during the 2024 calendar year.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
On January 31, 1974, the COA was established to serve as an advisory board to the City Council on senior -related issues and will be celebrating its 50 Y ear Anniversary on January 24, 2024. At its April 10 , 2023 , meeting, the COA established an Ad Hoc Committee to plan events and activities to commemorate the 50 Year Anniversary. The COA is recommending that the City Council approve the Committee’s proposed logo for marketing materials for the upcoming COA anniversary.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
One of the first orders of business that the Ad Hoc C ommittee undertook was the consideration and selection of a logo for use on promotional materials through the 2024 calendar year. In an effort to create familiarity in the community with the C OA’s golden anniversary and associated events , the logo will be utilized on flyers, decals, the City’s website, social media, and other public-facing materials. The logo selected (page 3) is gold for the golden anniversary, i s scalable, simple, and does not include complicated design elements that would make it difficult to reproduce in different formats. The logo mimics the design of the City’s 50 Year Anniversary logo used to celebrate the City’s anniversary in 2019. At its June 12, 2023, meeting, the COA Executive Board approved the logo for the City Council’s consideration.

The following alternatives are available to the City Council:
1. Approve the use of the attached logo commemorating the COA’s 50 Year Anniversary for use on a variety of promotional materials during the 2024 calendar year;
2. Do not approve the use of the attached logo commemorating the COA’s 50 Year Anniversary for use on a variety of promotional materials during the 2024 calendar year;
3. Provide the COA with an alternative direction.
The Council On Aging recommends Alternative No. 1.
SUGGESTED CITY COUNCIL MOTION
I move to approve the use of the requested logo commemorating the COA’s 50 Year Anniversary for use on a variety of promotional materials during the 2024 calendar year.
