BOARD MEMBERS
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council select four Council Members to serve on two subcommittees of two City Council Members to interview and nominate prospective Neighborhood Council Executive Board Members.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
Neighborhood Council Executive Board Members are appointed to staggered two- year terms, with approximately one third of the seats expiring every eight months.
The next regular term of appointments is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2024.
A general recruitment effort to fill 22 positions was initiated on February 29, 2024, and concluded on March 29, 2024. A total of 37 applications were received during the recruitment period; subsequently, one application has been withdrawn.
Only those applicants who attend a mandatory orientation and participate in the interview process will be eligible for appointment to the Executiv e Boards. Two orientation opportunities are being offered on Thursday, April 18, 2024 and Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Executive Board appointments will occur during the City Council meeting on June 24, 2024.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
Staff is recommend ing that the City Council select four Council Members to two subcommittees of two City Council Members to interview and nominate prospective Neighborhood Council Executive Board Members. The Brown Act (Government Code Section 54950, et seq.) provides that advisory committees composed solely of less than a quorum of City Council that meet for a limited duration and specified scope, are not legislative bodies. The interviews and nominations conducted by each subcommittee will be facilitated i ndependently of each other, and presented to the City Council for consideration in compliance with the Brown Act.
