STAFF RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council select two City Council Members to interview and nominate five prospective Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation Board members.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW

The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation (Foundation) is a separate 501(c)(3) non -profit organization that provides endowment and annual financial support for the Simi Valley Cultura l Arts Center. The Foundation Board is comprised of up to 21 voting members , including seven City Council -appointed public members. Currently, four City Council-appointed vacancies exist with terms beginning on July 1, 2024, and concluding on June 30, 2028. Also, a City Council- appointed member resigned after the recruitment was initiated, therefore, an additional vacancy exists to fill the remainder of the term, beginning July 1, 2024, and concluding on June 30, 2026.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES

The City initiated a recruitment on February 20, 2024, to solicit applications for the current vacancies. The deadline for applications was March 29, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. Recruitment efforts included a press release, cable television public service announcements, outreach by the Foundation Board members, social media shares, and posting on the City’s website. As of the March 29, 2024 , deadline, a total of seven (7) applications were received. Therefore, it is anticipated that approximately one hour will be nee ded to conduct the ten-minute applicant interviews. Staff is recommending that the City Council select two City Council Members to interview and nominate five applicants to fill the upcoming vacancies on the Foundation Board with a term commencing July 1, 2024, with one term concluding on June 30, 2026, and four terms concluding on June 30, 2028.

Among the current City Council, Council Member Cavanaugh served on the nominating committee for the Foundation Board in October of 2022.
