Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I moved here during the pandemic and recall driving the moving van to our new family home knowing that my kids will grow up and create many memories here. Simi felt peaceful and alive at the same time. Arriving here truly seemed like a victory. As a family, discovering Simi felt like reading novel – the 4th of July fireworks, trick or treating, and spending Sundays as a family at the bowling alley. The peace and safety Simi provided was exactly what we needed after several tumultuous years, courtesy of the pandemic. It was here that we built a home and grew closer as a family. The thought that I might be able to contribute to my city’s continued flourishing growth is both an incredible responsibility and opportunity. What the city council does in the next few years will determine our city’s trajectory for decades to come. That’s why I would like to serve on the Board. I want to serve my community in this time of growth and see every resident thrive in Simi the same way my family did.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? Advocate on issues like homelessness, housing, land use, emergency preparedness, public safety, parks, transportation, and sustainability.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Neighborhood Councils allow residents to participate in local government at the neighborhood level. They also provide a local voice on the delivery of City services to their communities.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?

August 2021
Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I had the privilege of serving on Neighborhood Council #2 from August of 2021 until my term ended in 2023. The Neighborhood Councils are an important body which allow citizens of Simi Valley to raise their concerns about developments and how they would like their city to look and feel. They are also an important advisory to the Planning Commission and City Council on how the citizens are feeling about issues within the city. I enjoyed helping them be a voice and influence in the way decisions are made by both upper bodies of our city government. It truly is an honor to serve my community in the city that I love.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? As a member of the neighborhood council, we act as listening body to the citizens of our district on matters of development and planning. We also act as body to listen to those who want to build something in our city and make sure they are holding to the standards set forth by city ordinances. Our job is to advise the City Council on what people from our district are thinking about as it relates to the various building projects and other matters in our city.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Simi Valley is relatively unique in having Neighborhood Councils as we are the best first step in listening to those who wish to build things or in some cases, ask for changes to allow them to build something different than what was planned. The citizens that are affected by these developments, get to voice their feelings on them in a safe and small, friendly environment which then becomes an advisory to both the Planning Commission and City Council. I had the honor to serve when two important issues came up. A Solar Panel Installation that did not go through normal processes and new apartment complex development. In both cases, we heard what the developers had in mind and how the people felt about them. We listened carefully and then voted on recommendations. Not everything goes to plan. We are there for both parties to listen to their positions and then make reasonable recommendations.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?
Yes
Executive Board members shall act as a representative of Neighborhood Councils throughout the community. 22 Are you able to participate in Neighborhood Council events while reserving your opinions until the appropriate time at Neighborhood Council meetings?
Yes
Have you previously served as an Executive Board member? Yes
If yes, indicate dates served. If not applicable, then enter n/a.

Aug 2021 to November 2023
Please add any additional information you would like considered:

I truly enjoyed serving the people of Simi Valley through the Neighborhood Council previously and I would like to continue to serve those needs. The Neighborhood Councils are import advisory bodies to the City Council and Planning Commission. Serving the people of my city in this role is truly an honor.

By entering my name below, I acknowledge that I am submitting my application to serve as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member. I understand that failure to attend an orientation within the past three years will result in my not being considered for Neighborhood Council Executive Board membership for the term that will commence on July 1, 2024. Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? Three years ago, I lost my husband of 26 years and my world was forever changed overnight. Up until that point, I was a stay at home mom and, while I did lots of volunteering to stay busy and have a sense of purpose, I did not have an actual paying job. I was keenly aware that I function best when I keep myself very busy so I decided to re- start my old career in real estate and look to other areas to be productive and meet people. When I joined Soaring Spirits, I started off as a member but 9 months into it, the president asked me to take over for her as the Regional Group Leader for the Simi Valley chapter. This proved to be a great opportunity to not only meet people and form new friendships but to also actually make a difference in someone's life. When I recently heard about the opportunity to serve on my neighborhood council, I immediately thought this would be a perfect fit for me to help out, meet new people and help serve the city that I love.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? My understanding is I will serve as a liaison between the City Council and my district (#4). This role, I believe, will include disseminating information to people living in my district as well as bringing issues to the City Council that have been brought to my attention by people in my district.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? I believe the Neighborhood Councils serve to act as a vital pathway for information to go back and forth between district residents and the Simi Valley City Council.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?
