UBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR PRO TEM/VICE-CHAIR/PRESIDENT PRO TEM
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
I
t is recommended that the City Council/Boards of Directors /Board of Trustees consider the appointment of a City Council Member/Special District Member/Trustee to the Mayor Pro Tem/Vice-Chair/President Pro Tem position.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
At its December 16, 2024, meeting, the City Council appointed Council Member Cavanaugh to serve as Mayor Pro Tem as well as Vice- Chair of the District/Authority and President Pro Tem of the Library Board of Trustees. Due to the untimely passing of Mayor Fred Thomas which left the Mayor position vacant, the City Council, at the meeting of January 27, 2024, appointed Mayor Pro Tem Cavanaugh to serve as Mayor. This appointment left the Mayor Pro Tem position vacant. It is recommended the City Council/Boards of Directors/Board of Trustees consider the appointment to the Mayor Pro Tem/Vice -Chair/President Pro Tem positions.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
A
s Mayor Pro Tem, the individual selected will also serve as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for Ventura County Waterworks District #8 and the Simi Valley Public Facilities Financing Authority, and as the President Pro Tem of the Library Board of Trustees. It is recommended the City Council choose one of its members to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Attached for the City Council’s reference is a list of the Council Members appointed as Mayor Pro Tem since 1990 (Attachment A, page 3).
