ECT: SELECTION OF TWO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO CONDUCT

COMMUNITY PROJECTS GRANT REVIEW COMMITTEE INTERVIEWS

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It
is recommended that the City Council appoint two City Council Members to conduct interviews and nominate a Community at-large member to the Community Projects Grant Review Committee.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
In M
ay 2011, the City executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City and Waste Management related to the expansion of the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. The MOU provides annual funding of up to $150,000 for community projects and programs at the discretion of the City Council. The City Council established the Community Projects Grant (CPG) program to disburse those funds. The Community Projects Grant Review Committee consists of one representative from each of the four Neighborhood Councils, one from the Council On Aging, one from the Youth Council, and one Community at-large member. Currently, the Community at -large position is vacant, and the process of filling the position is underway.

FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
Sta
ff initiated the recruitment for the Commun ity at-large position on February 3, 2025, the recruitment concluded on February 17, 2025, and 14 applications were received. It is recommended that applicant interviews be scheduled between March 4 and March 14, 2025, to accommodate timely appointments to the CPG Review Committee and allow for the review of grant applications to begin in April 2025 . The Neighborhood Councils, Council On Aging, and Youth Council will nominate representatives at their March meetings.

The pr
ocess requires representatives to disclose any affiliations with organizations that applied for funding during the selection process to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest before the appointment of CPG Review Committee members.
