Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? My family and I have lived in Simi Valley for over two years. We saved and moved out of the San Fernando Valley into a home of our own. We have a toddler, and we have a vested interest in making this town the best it can be for our family's future. There is a lot that we love about this town, and some things we would love to see improved.

Since Simi Valley is a city with an aging population, I want to make sure that I can help this city be a beacon for responsible local government for the next generation. This is a great city to raise a family in, and I want to keep it that way, while also offering a fresh perspective.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? I can offer my 12+ years of experience in the California Real Estate sphere to help the city review upcoming projects and determine how they can fit in the community. I strive to provide an unbiased, educated opinion on neighborhood projects and review all facts to help the city make the best decisions possible on development in the city. I also believe it is my responsibility to directly engage my neighbors in Council District 1 to determine their concerns and relay them to the council as their representative. Many people do not have the time necessary to devote to direct civic engagement, and I want to help them get their voices heard.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Local government is the most direct representation that citizens can elect. However, even at the city level in a mid- sized city like Simi Valley, there needs to be another group of people who can do more detailed community outreach and talk regularly to their neighbors about their concerns, and act as their representatives to the council at large. It has always been an important cornerstone of government for there to be multiple representatives of citizen needs, and I would like to help our citizens get their voices heard. Also, as a Simi Valley resident with a young growing family, I have a direct interest in the effective governance of this town, as well as the projects that are developed here, to ensure that they are an effective way to help this city into the future, while also making sure the charm of our city is preserved.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood 4 Council activities?
Yes
As a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member, can you reserve your opinions on agenda items and refrain from discussing them at community events, addressing itemized business during the official meeting? Yes
Have you previously served as an Executive Board member? No
If yes, indicate dates served. If not applicable, then enter n/a.

They give the City Council and City staff a clearer understanding of community concerns and advise the City Council and Planning Commission on development projects from the perspective of residents.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I spoke with my neighbor Karl Birch who's currently on the council. We've had several conversations and he recommended that I apply. After attending the 10/15/24 meeting, it increased my interest. I make a point to read the Simi Valley Acorn to know what's going on in my town, and this seems like the next logical step to learn more and get involved at a deeper level.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? My impression is that the responsibilities of a Council member are to represent the people in my neighborhood to the best of my ability, be unbiased, and help convey what the community I represent feels is in their best interest to the City Council. The City Council will take the information and advice from each of the Neighborhood Councils to make informed decisions. Another responsibility is to provide information and presentations to the public on important issues within the community.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? See above; local government has a more direct impact on the citizens than most people realize. The NC is an important link between the people and the local government.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I have lived in Simi Valley since 2003 and have raised my three daughters here. I presently have my family and my oldest daughter’s family living in the city and would like to see it grow and prosper. It has been a wonderful place to live and I want to help maintain it.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? I would help give input about how things were going in my neighborhood, go to meetings to share that input, and listen to input from others.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? These councils allow citizens’ concerns to be heard. The government officials cannot know all the issues in the city so this helps them to be in touch on a local level and therefore govern more effectively.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?

I have attended an orientation within the past three years If you attended an orientation in the last three years add the month and year below. If not applicable, then enter n/a.

I have served on Neighborhood Council previously but don't remember the dates I attended orientation.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I believe it's important that we take an interest in what goes on in our cities. Too often, I hear people complain that they don't like what is happening or not happening but do not do anything about it. Community involvement and input helps our leaders make the best decisions.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? I see my responsibility as a NC Exec Board member to act as a liaison between the city's government and it's residents. This is done by 1) listening with an open mind when members from NC #2 come before us to give their input on things happening in their community; 2) talking with my local neighbors, inviting them to meetings that I know will be of interest to them and 3) pay attention to what happens at the Planning Commission and City Council meeting so that I can keep current on what is taking place within our city.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? I think Neighborhood Councils are important because they provide opportunities for residents to voice their concerns and ask questions as well as help them lean about local issues and ensure that the city is responsive to their needs.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I am passionate about serving as an Executive Board member because I was born and raised in Simi Valley, and I am deeply committed to keeping our community safe, informed, and thriving. I want to ensure that our residents feel connected to the decisions that impact their lives. Additionally, as a bilingual speaker, I am excited about the opportunity to engage more with the Hispanic community, helping to bridge any communication gaps and encouraging their involvement. By fostering inclusivity and transparency, I believe we can make Simi Valley an even better place for all of us.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? If elected, I see my responsibilities as centered on representing the diverse voices within our community and ensuring transparent, effective communication between the board and the public. I would prioritize community safety, keep residents informed about key activities and decisions, and actively seek input from various community groups to address their needs and concerns. Additionally, I would work to increase engagement within the Hispanic community, using my bilingual skills to make sure they are informed and feel empowered to participate. By upholding these responsibilities, I hope to help create a more unified and resilient community.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? I believe it’s essential to have dedicated, community-focused leadership on the Executive Board to ensure that Simi Valley remains a safe, connected, and thriving place for all residents. Good leadership is crucial in addressing the needs and concerns of our community and creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels informed and included. It’s important to me that all voices are heard and represented in decision-making. This is how we build a strong, resilient community—by valuing transparency, fostering trust, and empowering residents to take an active role in shaping our future.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Because as stated in my previous answer, I believe there should be direct district specific representation to city leadership about important issues happening in their specific areas of the community. That's the primary reason I believe NC's are important.

In short, I greatly enjoyed my time of NC4. I felt a sense of engagement with my community that I didn't feel as a resident alone. I routinely engaged with my neighborhood in advance of meetings to see if there was anything to be brought up during, and strongly encouraged attendance so they could see for themselves the work being done at that level to help resolve potential issues or areas of concern. I want to continue to contribute, thus my interest in participating again.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I've lived with my family in Simi Valley since 2007. We raised our son here, where he attended Simi Valley public schools, graduating Royal High School in 2022, from the special education program. I retired two years ago and began my new chapter actively volunteering with organizations I have a passion for. Until I saw this article on Facebook, I wasn't aware these neighborhood councils existed. I would really appreciate the opportunity to be more involved and of service to my fellow Simi Valley residents in a community I have come to love.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? Become better information on the issues that impact my community and the future of Simi Valley, so that I can help to continue to improve our neighborhoods through our interactions with City Council. I hope to be a conduit and ambassador for my community in NC4.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Though Simi Valley is not that big, I have noticed that the distinct neighborhoods that make up Simi Valley all have their own personalities, issues and challenges. I like the idea that these four districts can each have a voice and represention in advising the City Council on proposals and changes that will impact the city as a whole.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?

Please add any additional information you would like considered:

I don't have experience on government committees, but I've worked in corporate America, in Fortune 300 companies (primarily in the financial industry) for more than 35 years. Now as a retiree, I want to spend my time and energy volunteering with worthwhile organizations that don't have the financial budgets to hire needed support staff. I believe that my next step should be to serve the community l have happily lived in more than 17 years. Thank you for offering this possible opportunity.

0 Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? Not yet.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? As a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member, my responsibilities would include representing the community by listening to residents' concerns and advocating for their needs. I would prioritize transparent communication, ensuring residents are informed about Council activities and decisions. I’d work collaboratively with local stakeholders, other Board members, and city agencies to address neighborhood issues and strengthen community ties. Ensuring effective governance, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to bylaws would be essential. Additionally, I’d help mediate conflicts and promote long-term planning to enhance the neighborhood’s future, focusing on sustainability and resilience. Overall, my role would be to serve the community, foster inclusive dialogue, and work towards solutions that improve quality of life for all residents.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Neighborhood Councils are crucial because they provide a direct link between local residents and government, ensuring that community voices are heard and considered in decision-making. They empower residents to advocate for their needs, influence policies, and address local issues like safety, infrastructure, and housing. By fostering collaboration between community members, local organizations, and city officials, Neighborhood Councils help build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods. They also promote transparency, accountability, and civic engagement, allowing residents to take an active role in shaping the future of their communities. Ultimately, they are a vital tool for ensuring that neighborhoods thrive and that diverse voices contribute to local governance.
