SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER TO THE HOUSING
SOLUTIONS AD HOC COMMITTEE
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council appoint a Council Member to the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee focused on serving the City’s unhoused population.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
At its December 16, 2024 meeting, the City Council discussed and created the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee (Committee) focused on serving the City’s u nhoused population. The Committee’s purpose is to consider items such as the creation of an emergency shelter, a comprehensive approach to housing solutions such as ongoing funding requirements, zoning considerations, building codes, compatibility of Housing First, and additional community partnerships for long-term sustainability.
FINDINGS AND ALTERNATIVES
At the December 16, 2024 meeting, the late Mayor Thomas and Council Member Rhodes were selected and appointed to serve on the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee. The passing of Mayor Thomas has necessitated the appointment of an additional Council Member to the Committee.
The following alternatives are available to the City Council:
1. Appoint one City Council Member to serve on the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee;
2. Provide staff with further direction.
SUGGESTED CITY COUNCIL MOTION
I move to appoint [Council Member] to serve on the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee.

SUMMARY
The City Council established the Housing Solutions Ad Hoc Committee with the appointments of the late Mayor Thomas and Council Member Rhode s at its December 16, 2024 meeting. Due to the passing of Mayor Thomas, an additional City Council Member is needed to serve on the Committee.
