I have worked for the 4th district county supervisor for 8 years and in my roles in the office we have always made sure to engage business owners and the community to see how we can help both entities. Through the pandemic I was on the taskforce for business recovery with the cities of Moorpark and Simi, the Chambers of both cities and anyone else we could get to help businesses. We are currently working with the city of Simi and the chamber on a business resource forum to help businesses overcome any obstacles they might have, and right now the main struggle is finding employees.

Please list community activities and/or organizations in which you are involved.

Simi Valley Leadership, Class of 2023, previosuly with Simi valley emerging leaders. I am also very involved with the cities of Moorpark and Simi Valley and the Chambers of commerce for both cities What is your particular interest in serving on the YES Advisory Board? Having a representative from our local County Supervisors office would benefit the community in multiple ways.

Some being the county is one of the largest employers in Ventura County, and our office helps business find employees and we can help students find work while we are working with local businesses. Also, I think that I have a unique perspective to bring to this board because I personally do not have a background with the schools so I can bring an outside opinion.

Why do you think that the YES is important?
After serving 2 years on this board I have seen the impact that it is having on students and it is very easy to see that the work that YES is doing is much needed in the community and the schools. We need to keep our workforce close to home and keep people in our community and the best way to do that is to have a job in the community so people aren’t moving from the county for work.

Over the past 2 years, I have been working to find ways to harness the power of social media and communicate our main message to teenagers within our community. Through organizing job fairs, career fairs, and working on filming a financial literacy podcast, it is my primary goal to advocate for financial literacy and practical job skills.

Please list community activities and/or organizations in which you are involved.

Technovation Club, Volunteer at old age home, CJSF, SWENEXT Club, Math Honors Society What is your particular interest in serving on the YES Advisory Board? am interested in serving on the YES advisory board because personally working has allowed me to experience problems in the real world and allows me to serve my community. It would be very gratifying to be able to educate my fellow peers about employment to teach them applicable and relevant topics to use in the future. I hope to continue working on the podcast project and novel project I have been working on.

Why do you think that the YES is important?
I believe that educating youth about work opportunities and how to manage financial situations is important for their future. Being educated on the workforce can help bring confidence, independence, and soft skills to aid them in the future. By having a responsibility, they get to learn soft skills to use for the future as well. I can say that 14 working brings me a sense of duty and leadership. For some, youth employment is a way to open up better opportunities for themselves in the future.

For 11 years, I have been a part of a non-profit organization known as Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team that teaches youth to ride horses and military drill in horseback as well as teamwork, leadership, dedication, and horsemanship. My duties in the organization have included teaching the youth a variety of different things regarding the horses, including basic horse care, handling tack and other equipment, riding, and understanding and dealing with horse behavior, whilst also instilling the values of teamwo rk, dedication, and leadership through guidance. Additionally, I did some volunteer work in elementary classrooms helping the teacher and students with tasks at hand.

Please list community activities and/or organizations in which you are involved.

As mentioned above, I am a member and officer in a non-profit organization, Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team, which teaches youth to ride horses and how to do early cavalry drilling. My duties include teaching youth to ride, how to handle equipment, understand and deal with horse behavior, and do military drills on horseback.

Additionally, I have also had responsibilities including identifying and resolving conflicts within the team, managing money, and organizing and overseeing team events.

What is your particular interest in serving on the YES Advisory Board? 16 Growing up, I was always taught to help those around me. My family would be the ones to stick around after an event to help with clean up, the last family to leave somewhere to make sure everyone has a ride and makes it home safely, and always offering to help even without being asked. So, offering my help wherever I can and volunteering has always felt like the right thing to do. I am always looking for new things to do, and volunteering for YES would be a great opportunity for me to make a difference in a community built to help people just like me.

I would love to be able to help my community and to give insight into my experiences to make a difference.

Why do you think that the YES is important?
As a new adult myself, I struggled to find employment, and I know of many other people my age who struggle as well. Issues like struggling with interviews, finding the right place that fits your qualifications and needs, and making connections are the things that hold us back the most. However, issues like these are helped by the opportunities offered by YES. I was personally not fully aware of all the things provided by YES, and am still curious to learn more about everything, which is why I think it is really important for all youth in Simi Valley to know that YES is here to help and has amazing opportunities to help you in your career journey. YES helps people to learn interview skills and how to prepare for an interview, provides referrals to available j obs and connections to local employers and others, and even more. All these things are key to finding a job, and finding the right one for you, making the mission of YES so important.

The YES Advisory Board meetings are held at 8:15 a.m., on the third Wednesday of each month during the school year in the City Hall Community Room. Can you commit to attend each month's meeting?

I worked as the Work Experience Coordinator and Educator for the last three years, along with being a teacher for the past 24 years in Simi Valley. My job entails knowing child labor laws as well as making sure students and employers are adhering to those laws while on site visits in and around Simi Valley. Having close to 125 students enrolled in the program, I'm constantly meeting and interacting with managers and business owners who are looking to hire our students.

Please list community activities and/or organizations in which you are involved.

I regularly attended the YES meetings this school year since August of 2022.

What is your particular interest in serving on the YES Advisory Board? I want to maintain my connections with the city, the Advisory Board, and provide a voice for my students.

Why do you think that the YES is important?
It's important to have a group like YES so our young people within Simi Valley are given every opportunity to be successful. I've seen first hand how members of the Yes committee provide the knowledge and skills young people need to navigate an ever changing labor force. This is something that only adds to the development of our community, which includes my students, in a positive way.
