My role includes overseeing hiring, personnel matters, ensuring compliance with Education Code, CalPERS, and labor laws. I prepare monthly reports and presentations for the board, maintain compliance with our charter authorizer, and develop organizational policies.

Please list other community activities in which you are involved:

I regularly participate in community events connected to our school campuses, including numerous practice runs leading up to our annual 5K, a children’s run hosted at Hansen Dam Park, and various festivals and fairs open to the public at different campuses. These free-to-the-community activities have always been on a voluntary basis, outside of work hours and without pay, because I value creating opportunities for families and neighbors to come together.

While much of my service has centered on the communities around our schools, my desire to join the Neighborhood Council comes from wanting to be more active and directly engaged in the community where I live.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I am interested in serving as an Executive Board member because I want to be more actively engaged in the community where I live. In my professional and volunteer work, I have seen the positive impact that community events and grassroots involvement can have on families and neighborhoods. The Simi Valley Neighborhood Council provides a meaningful way to contribute by listening to residents, encouraging participation, and working with others to ensure Simi Valley remains a safe, welcoming, and connected place for all who call it home.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? If appointed, I see my responsibilities as listening to the concerns of residents, representing those perspectives to the City Council, and ensuring that community voices help shape local decisions. My role is not to promote my own opinions, but to remain objective and impartial so that all viewpoints are fairly considered. I also believe it is important to be punctual and responsible in attending neighborhood council meetings, and to keep my feedback concise so that discussions remain productive and respectful of everyone’s time. My role in Neighborhood Council will essentially be to serve as a link between residents and our board, working as part of a broader civic effort to 10 keep Simi Valley a safe and welcoming place for children, young adults, families, and our retired community.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? I believe Neighborhood Councils are important because they have volunteerism at their core. Participation should be genuine, selfless, and rooted in the desire to build community and support our neighbors. Too often, people focus only on the negative aspects of their surroundings instead of recognizing the opportunities and good that already exist. The best way to ensure those positives continue to proliferate is for residents to get involved, and do their part.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?
Yes
As a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member, can you reserve your opinions on agenda items and refrain from discussing them at community events, addressing itemized business during the official meeting? Yes
Please add any additional information you would like considered:

Thank you for taking the time to read through these submissions. I wish you the very best as you work to select the right candidates for this important role and continue serving our community. Also, Thanks for contributing to our community and helping to make Simi Valley an amazing place to live.

Serving on the executive board would give me the opportunity to listen to neighbors, bring forward their concerns, and work collaboratively toward solutions that reflect our community’s priorities.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? My responsibility is to represent residents’ voices accurately, keep communication open, and encourage participation. That means attending meetings prepared, listening to concerns, and working with city staff and other board members to make thoughtful recommendations. It also means being approachable so neighbors know their input is valued.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Neighborhood councils give residents a direct way to influence decisions on issues that matter most—like protecting open space, improving public safety, and ensuring development fits our community’s character. They help keep local government connected to the realities we face in Simi Valley.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?
Yes
As a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member, can you reserve your opinions on agenda items and refrain 22 from discussing them at community events, addressing itemized business during the official meeting? Yes

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? It is a goal of mine to become a public servant in government. I love learning policy and would like to contribute to city legislation; I think I would thrive in any neighborhood council role.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? First, observe and learn what is practiced by current city council members and other city govt leaders. Second, offer my constructive feedback and ask questions (for clarity of my own and to help find solutions), and then any other additional tasks I can do to serve. I would love to help suggest/make improvements to the town in any way and would be privileged to help maintain already existing, successful programs in and around the city. Hoping to help make improvements to the city to empower more successful businesses and public services (including the library).

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Local government is the type of government that is most empowered to hear and address the specific needs of individuals, so cities must be organized to efficiently and successfully serve their constituents.

Are you willing and able to attend monthly Neighborhood Council meetings and perform other duties such as greeting the public at Neighborhood Council meetings and distributing key information on Neighborhood Council activities?
Yes
28 As a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member, can you reserve your opinions on agenda items and refrain from discussing them at community events, addressing itemized business during the official meeting? Yes
Please add any additional information you would like considered:

Started my career in record keeping as Recorder in Rainbow Girls, unanimously elected by my peers three years in a row. Began taking accounting classes at age 16 in 11th grade and continued in college. Hold a BA in economics with a minor in business law, including courses in real estate law and California real estate principles. Boyfriend holds a Master in Library & Information Science with a speciality in media archiving from UCLA, so having him share his specialized knowledge has led to my interest in archiving, data collection and the ethics and nuances pertaining to management of libraries and museums. My father served on city council for years but he and I do not possess the same views or knowledge on many things, though I always appreciate what he has to tell me about his experiences.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? To attend meeting and gather information about the various functions of the city and provide that information to the homeowners in my area.

Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? They are a conduit where you learn what is going on in the city and hear presentations by staff such as rubbish rate increase; water rate increases and pass that information on to my neighbors so they can make an informed decision on this information and attend discussions regarding these proposed increases.

I am a retired member of the California National Guard having served 40 years. In that unit I served as the Senior Enlisted Leader of the Unit. I have also served on the Citizens Election Advisory Board and worked with Brent Seimer on flood plane mapping.

Why are you interested in serving as an Executive Board member? I am interested in serving as an executive board member because I want to contribute to my community, particularly in addressing issues concerning high-risk youth. Many of these youth feel unheard and rebel against a system that dismisses their needs and fails to understand them. I believe it is important to be a voice for these kids, young adults, and their families to infuse hope where hope is foreign to bring them to a place where they can believe that happiness and joy might be possible for them.” Being part of the board would enable me to provide valuable feedback, help organize community meetings, and contribute to projects that enhance our neighborhood and improve the quality of life for all. I enjoy connecting with people and want to serve as a helpful liaison between the community and the city government.

What do you see as your responsibilities if appointed as a Neighborhood Council Executive Board member? I would eagerly participate in neighborhood meetings and community events to connect with residents, truly listening to their thoughts and concerns to ensure that everyone feels heard and valued. It would be my priority to share these insights with the City Council and the Planning Commission, advocating for the needs of our community.

Collaborating with fellow board members and city staff, I would work together to brainstorm ideas and creative solutions for the challenges we face as a community. I would attend our monthly meetings discussing important issues and actively contribute to decisions that impact our neighborhood. Partnering closely with other board members and the Neighborhood Council Coordinator, I would strive to make sure our collective voices and concerns resonate with the right people in city government. My focus would be on suggesting/supporting projects that enhance our community and make it a better place for all to live. I hope to serve as an effective liaison. 49 Why do you think the Neighborhood Councils are important? Neighborhood councils are important because they help connect local people with the government. They give residents a chance to voice their opinions and concerns about things that matter to them, like safety and community needs. Councils also share local knowledge with city officials, helping them make better decisions. They encourage people to get involved in local issues and make sure everyone in the community has a say. By focusing on the specific needs of their neighborhoods, these councils help create a better living environment for everyone.
