Subject: Selection of two City Council Members to conduct Community Projects Grant Review Committee interviews
Staff Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council appoint two City Council Members to conduct interviews and nominate a community at-large member to the Community Projects Grant (CPG) Review Committee.
Background
In May 2011, the City executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Waste Management regarding the expansion of the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center.
The MOU provides annual funding up to $150,000 for community projects and programs at the City Council's discretion. The City Council established the CPG program to disburse those funds. The C PG Review Committee consists of one representative from each of the four Neighborhood Councils, one from the Council On Aging, one from the Youth Council, and one Community -at-Large member. Currently, the Community-At-Large position is vacant, and the process of filling the position is underway.
Discussion
Staff initiated recruitment for the Community-At-Large position on February 2, 2026, and the recruitment concluded on February 16, 2026, with a total of 9 applications received.
It is recommended that the applicant interviews be scheduled between March 2 and March 16, 2026, to accommodate timely appointments to the CPG Review Committee and allow for the review of grant applications in April 2026. The Neighborhood Councils, Council On Aging, and Youth Council will nominate representatives during their March meetings.
The process requires representatives to disclose any affiliation with organizations that applied for funding during the selection process, to ensure there are no conflicts of interest before the appointment of CPG Review Committee members.
