To: City Council
From: Office of the City Manager
Luis Garibay, Assistant City Manager
Subject: Selection of one City Council Member to serve on the interview and nomination panel for returning Youth Council members
Staff Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council select one City Council Member to serve on the interview and nomination panel for prospective returning Youth Council members.

Background
The Youth Council consists of 24 members, ten of which represent the three middle schools and four high schools within the Simi Valley Unified School District, eleven Community at Large representatives, and three Alternate Community at Large representatives. All Youth Council terms of office will conclude on June 30, 2026. Up to nine positions may be selected for retention each year.

Discussion
Pursuant to Resolution No. 2011 -14, an interview panel consisting of one City Council Member, the Youth Council Coordinator, and up to two non -returning Youth Council members shall nominate up to nine incumbents for retention by the City Council. Staff expects approximately 18 incumbent applications, and it is estimated that approximately two and a half hours will be needed to conduct the interviews. Interviews for prospective returning Youth Council members are currently scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. If the selected Council Member is unavailable at that time, the interviews will be rescheduled to accommodate their availability.

Council Member Judge most recently served on the interview panel for these positions in May of 2025.
